Recovering

Yes, Sara is recovering. As she was cycling to work last Monday, Sara was hit and run over by an SUV (insert tirade). Thankfully, the main injury is a broken ankle and already the many bruises and aches are improving.

Yanik's attempt to get a little rest mid-semester (via a bout of stomach flu) was interrupted with a call from the hospital. As always, he rose to the occasion magnificently. He will definitely get a lot of caring for the next time he is under the weather, with even a slightly runny nose (provided Sara's cast is off...). And, yes, that fast and furious stomach bug has now made the full rounds of the family including visitors and has moved on to Sara's brother, Mike. We are all hoping Amber, and 4-week-old Nova are spared.

Calla has been doing her best to understand why mama is now a complete couch potato. She has really been encouraging some outdoors time - in fact, she routinely brings Sara's shoes from the front closet over to the couch as a not-so-subtle hint. One time, she brought every pair of Sara's footwear, along with her own rain boots and her pail and spade (If mama doesn't know what I'm asking now....). As you can see, Calla also knows the importance of bike helmets and prefers to wear hers at all times.

(figuring "if only we can find the right footwear..."!)

Yet another of Calla's attempts to have mama's company in the rain.

Luckily, Calla has had lots of good times outside with Grandpa, whose visit took on a major change of tone after the accident. And now Nana is here so, again, Calla has great company.

Just before the accident, Sara, Calla, and Grandpa had been to Maplewood farm, where Calla was practicing "petting gently" with the goats and bunnies. We have since been using the same instructions for Sara's injured leg - for a few days, Calla would gently pet Sara's cast if someone said the word "goat". Here are few photos of our fun times with Grandpa, pre-accident:

Oh my goodness! What an infuriating/hilarious/sad post! All these trials and tribulations at once. Brutal.
Hope the goat heals fast. Your little girl is a wonder.
